Project details

The cities of Bamako (Mali), Geneva (Switzerland) and Lyon (France) launched on 5 March 2001 in Lyon the first International Solidarity Fund of Cities Against Poverty (FSCP). In the near future, other cities are likely to join them to implement solidarity projects from 2002 on. The aim is to create partnership and cooperation between cities both from the North and the South, developing financial and technical support, as well as competence transfers.

The inauguration of the headquarters of the FSCP took place on 12 April 2002 at the Villa Moynier, in presence of the mayors of Bamako and Lyon, Ibrahima N'Diaye and GĂ©rard Collomb, and the State Councilor of Geneva, Carlo Lamprecht.

Manuel Tornare, President of the Fund, said that the inauguration marked an important step in the process of awarness of the phenomenon of poverty and social exclusion. The Mayor of Geneva recalled the aims of this new tool of international solidarity. The fund will be a network of exchange, project help, and a catalyst of partnerships from which all parties can benefit.
