Project detailsThe use of New Information and Communication Technologies (NICT) has created a new global information society, from which four milliards people are currently excluded. The access to new technologies has widened the gap between the North and the South. Especially the Least Developed Countries (LDC), many of which are in Africa, are more and more marginalized. They often are excluded from the international decision process regarding ICT infrastructures, the access to information and the legal framework. In this context, the workshop on the "Preparation of the LDCs to the WSIS" took place on 26 May 2002 in Bamako, during the Regional African Conference preparing the World Summit on the Information Society. 70 participants from 10 African and 4 donor countries, as well as representatives from International Organizations, met to discuss the "WSIS-Train for LDCs" program.
