Drugs for neglected diseases remains an urgent and so far unaddressed need in developing countries. These represent an inadequate return on investment, thus stifling production of many existing effective drugs. Research and development of truly innovative drugs is also stifled, for the same reason. Public policy has failed to address this deficit so far. The DND's "Not for Profit" initiative aims at pursuing equitable access to effective, field-relevant and easy to use drugs for neglected diseases in the developing world.
