Interpretation internship: Development and Globalization, between Growth and ExclusionProject at a glanceDates and Place13 February - 28 April 2006, Geneva, SwitzerlandGraduate Institute for Development Studies Project detailsThe course for which we recruit interpreters is part of a longer Masters program structured into three modules: During the first sequence, the people in training follow a two-month introductory course to the concepts, the methods and the theories offered in parallel in Mali, Peru and in Vietnam with partner institutions of the IUED. ICVolunteers offers internships in interpretation (English, French and Spanish) in a university environment, in the context of the "International Master of Advanced Studies" focusing on the promotion of sustainable human development, equal and respectful towards cultural and social diversity offered by the Graduate Institute for Development Studies (IUED). The course is focusing on development and globalization, between growth and exclusion. Different from most study courses of this kind, where seminars are conducted in English only, these Masters offers its courses in three languages: French, English and Spanish. The dialogue between professors and students from different cultural contexts is possible thanks to the participation of volunteer interpreters who, for their part, are able to acquire the terminology in the following fields: environment, cooperation in development, business, gender, New Information Technologies (NITC), human rights and fight against poverty. Volunteering OpportunitiesLanguages: classes are primarily given in French with interpretation into English and Spanish. However, one or two seminars are given in English. Discussions in all three languages. Simultaneous interpretation with microphone and headphones (system with high frequency radio waves ? HF). Public: People in training coming from private and public sectors, International Organizations (IO) and Non-governmental Organizations (NGO). Country of origin of the participants: Switzerland, Canada, Latin America, Asia, French-speaking Africa. Timetable: 6 hours a day, according to the rules of the AIIC.
